Three qualified sides in FULL SENSE, Team NKT, and Oasis Gaming, as well as one invited team in Talon Esports, will face off at ESL Clash of Nations 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.
THAILAND – ESL Clash of Nations 2023 will kick off on Friday, with four teams battling it out at the Thai event.
The four-team event will take place at Centrepoint Entertainment, which is also known as Centrepoint Studio, from Friday through Sunday, November 24-26 with approximately US$28,389 (TH฿1,000,000) up for grabs. Those interested in attending in person have the option to choose from various ticket tiers, with prices ranging between US$5 to US$25, catering to different preferences and days of the event.
The tournament will utilise a best-of-three double-elimination format, with the eventual winners of the upper bracket final advancing to the grand final. They will only need to win one best-of-three series to come out as champions and take home the TH฿600,000 first-place prize.
The complete schedule for the ESL Clash of Nations 2023 tournament can be found below (GMT+7):
Talon Esports are at the forefront among the teams participating in the ESL Clash of Nations 2023, along with Team NKT and FULL SENSE, both of whom qualified for the finals after topping the Thailand Qualifiers.
Initially, Fancy United Esports, winners of the Southeast Asian Qualifier, were slated to compete. However, due to delays with their passports at the Korean embassy related to the upcoming AfreecanTV VALORANT League, they are unable to travel to Thailand. As a result, Oasis Gaming steps in as their replacement, being the next eligible team from the same qualifier.
The favorites going into the playoffs will be the most recognizable team in attendance, Talon Esports. With them bringing about a new approach and pulling away from an all-Thai roster, Panyawat “sushiboys” Subsiriroj, Itthirit “foxz” Ngamsaard, and Apiwat “GarnetS” Apiraksukumal were released to make room for Joseph “ban” Seungmin Oh, Lionel “lenne” Lim, and Peter “Governor” No.
The organization’s CEO, however, offered some reassurance to their fans earlier amid the speculations about Talon Esports shifting their focus away from Thailand, saying that they are committed to the Thai scene. A new head coach from North America was brought in to strengthen their tactical aspects. However, according to the official tournament documents, there appears to be no indication that Patiphan “Patiphan” Chaiwong will be included in the starting five lineup.
FULL SENSE becomes one of the teams to watch, as the Talon Esports roster overhaul facilitates a reunion of a former quartet, with foxz and sushiboys added to the squad as former teammates Kititkawin “PTC” Rattanasukol and Chanawin “JohnOlsen” Nakchain from their two years ago when they qualified together for the 2021 VALORANT Champions. The key question now is whether an obvious boost in experience will be enough to elevate FULL SENSE to the heights they achieved two years before.
Team NKT are an interesting prospect for the Thai Challengers circuit next year, having proved themselves capable of outperforming each and every single strong contender in the region. Phoomphat “qqGOD” Phojjanart and co. more recently also qualified for the 2024 APAC Predator League, and their win in the Thailand Qualifier for ESL Clash of Nations 2023 has further increased their confidence to make deep runs.
This last-minute invitation also presents Oasis Gaming with an opportunity to get comfortable and warm up before they compete on their home turf at the 2024 APAC Predator League, scheduled for January next year.
