Wolves Esports overhaul coaching staff, sign alexRr as new head coach following Fayde and co. departure

by Juandi May 22, 2026

The Masters Toronto second runners-up turn to a new coaching direction following a string of disappointing domestic results.

CHINAWolves Esports have undergone a major coaching staff overhaul, parting ways with head coach Chong “Fayde” Hoc Wah, assistant coach Viernes "Maark" Benette, and analyst Sushant "Ominous" Jha. The trio's departure marks a complete reset of the team's backroom staff, with Alexander "alexRr" Frisch joining as the organization's new head coach after a brief stint with Nova Esports during VCT CN Stage 1.

Fayde joined Wolves in late 2024 alongside Maark and Ominous, helping guide the team to one of the most successful periods in their history. Under their leadership, WOL finished third at VCT CN Stage 1 in Beijing, securing qualification for VALORANT Masters Toronto.

At Masters Toronto, Wolves exceeded expectations with victories over Team Heretics, Bilibili Gaming, RRQ, and Gen.G, ultimately finishing third after falling to eventual finalists Paper Rex and FNATIC.

Since then, however, results have steadily declined. Wolves finished at the bottom of the standings in Stage 2 and struggled throughout the first half of 2026, placing 9th-10th at Kickoff Guangzhou before once again finishing last at VCT CN Stage 1 in Beijing.

Wolves Esports themselves have undergone significant changes since Toronto, with only Pong "SiuFatBB" Ka Hei and Liu "Spring" Chun-ting remaining from the lineup that made the international run. Despite multiple roster adjustments, the team have been unable to regain their footing domestically.

To begin a new chapter, Wolves have appointed alexRr as head coach. The German coach is best known for his work with Disguised during the 2024 Southeast Asian season before later moving back to Europe with Enterprise Esports. Earlier this year, he relocated to China to coach Nova Esports, though the team failed to make a significant impact during Stage 1.

“After Wolves Esports reached out to me for the Head Coach Position, I instantly saw the potential this players have, so I decided to sign with them, right now we will focus on building the new roster for Stage 2,” alexRr said.

The task ahead is a challenging one. WOL have managed just two victories across 12 VCT CN & CN Evolution Series matches this year, defeating Trace Esports and Nova Esports both 2-1 during Kickoff Guangzhou. Since their breakthrough run at Masters Toronto exactly one year ago, the team have secured only three VCT CN victories.

For VCT CN Stage 2 in Changsha, Wolves have been drawn into Group Omega alongside Xi Lai Gaming, All Gamers, Dragon Ranger Gaming, Titan Esports Club, and Bilibili Gaming.

With no Championship Points to their name, Wolves' clearest path to qualification for VALORANT Champions Shanghai is a top-two finish in Stage 2. Anything less would leave the former Masters semifinalists facing an uphill battle to reach the season-ending world championship on home soil.
