Bigetron Arctic, MORPH Team, and BOY WITH LOVE are among the 13 teams that earned main event spots after fighting through the open qualifiers.
The 2022 VCT Indonesia Challengers 1 adapted a slightly different qualification process to the one we saw last year, consolidating three weekly challengers events into a single tournament. The open qualifier round concluded on February 23, with the top 13 teams securing the main event berths alongside the three invited teams: ONIC Esports, BOOM Esports, and Alter Ego.

BOOM Esports and Alter Ego have made significant roster adjustments. The major roster shuffle in the VCT off-season period late last year triggered shakeups for a number of tier-one Indonesian teams, including BOOM Esports, Alter Ego, and MORPH Impact. The following is a summary:
- Alter Ego signed four players from MORPH Team (Moji, Kush, huliolio, deLb), and adrnking (former BOOM, RRQ)
- BOOM Esports acquired three former Alter Ego members (frostmind, BerserX, TehBotol; Eeyore and Asteriskk left
- MORPH Impact signed Fat Penguin (former MORPH & Alter Ego), Nay (former MORPH), FrizzNatsz (former Alter Ego), Rapheleen (former Bigetron)
- Bigetron Arctic (previously Astro) parted ways with Famouz; announced sayo signing
- BOY WITH LOVE announced a return consisting of asteriskk, Eeyore (former BOOM Esports), famouz (former MORPH & Bigetron), Flynch, roseaufy (former XcN Gaming)
BOOM Esports, Alter Ego, and ONIC Esports are the three highest-ranked teams out of the sixteen participants, which puts them as the main favorites. Aside from the upper-echelon teams, LORDS OF HEIST recently came in second place at the Oxtrade VALORANT Tournament, having lost to XcN Gaming. Additionally, Dewa United acquired Cynical to replace their former VVV roster.
Despite the off-season changes and the formation of several promising teams, only the three top teams will advance to the VCT APAC Challengers Playoffs.
The group stage will have sixteen teams battle their way through four GSL groups for two spots in the playoffs on February 11-20. All of the group stage matchups will play out as best-of-threes, with eight teams advancing to a double-elimination playoffs bracket, scheduled for February 23-27. The three teams representing Indonesia in the VCT APAC Challengers Playoffs will be determined on Sunday, February 27. All eyes will be on group A, featuring three upper-echelon teams in attendance, BOOM Esports, Bigetron Arctic, and MORPH Team.
