The former DWG KIA coach comes in to take charge of the Indian roster.
INDIA – Global Esports have secured the services of Hong “Eraser” Chang-pyo as the new coach of their VALORANT squad. The South Korean joins the staff team alongside analyst Malav “Rexdreams” Popat, who will now assist Eraser with coaching duties as an assistant coach.
Eraser’s appointment ends a five-month interregnum period for Global Esports in which the VALORANT team was without a coach after the departure of current CLG Red coach Josh “shinobi” Abastado by mutual agreement after leading the squad for the 2021 VCT APAC Last Chance Qualifier in October.
Eraser is no stranger to Global Esports, having represented the organization’s Fortnite roster from 2018 to 2019. However, it will be his first time occupying a head coach role for a non-Korean team after previously leading aNg DarkHorse and DWG KIA in the Korean circuit. The 25-year-old spent over 14 months with the latter, making deep runs in various domestic competitions, including runner-up at the 2021 VCT Korea Stage 2 Challengers, 3rd-4th at the 2021 VCT Korea Stage 3 Challengers, and recently 4th at the 2022 VCT Korea Stage 1 Challengers.

The news comes after a turbulent VCT APAC Stage 1 Challengers campaign. They failed to make much of an impression in the aforementioned international competition, finishing last after failing to pick up a single map win in the Play-In stage. Now equipped with a permanent coach, Global Esports will be hoping it will be enough to help them improve their results in VCT Stage 2.
Eraser has a lot of work ahead of him in his new home. The squad’s next significant tournament is the second stage of the VALORANT Conquerors Championship, a sub-regional competition for South Asia to qualify for an APAC-scale VCT tournament, which will be expected to begin after VALORANT Masters 1 Reykjavik.
With Eraser’s addition, here is what Global Esports’ lineup looks like:
- 🇮🇳 Bhavin “HellrangeR” Kotwani
- 🇮🇳 Akshay “KappA” Sinkar
- 🇮🇳 Abhirup “Lightningfast” Choudhury
- 🇮🇳 Jayanth “skillZ” Ramesh
- 🇮🇳 Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar
- 🇰🇷 Hong “Eraser” Chang-pyo (Coach)
- 🇮🇳 Malav “Rexdreams” Popat (Assistant coach)
