Shinobi joins Global Esports as coach

by Juandi September 28, 2021
by Juandi September 28, 2021

Josh “shinobi” Abastado joins Global Esports as a coach prior to the start of their VCT APAC Last Chance Qualifier campaign.

Josh “shinobi” Abastado is slated to take over as the Indian lineup’s coach for the upcoming VCT APAC Last Chance Qualifier, which will take place from October 11-17. The former Cloud9 player will substantially contribute to Global Esports’ tactical repertoire as the team prepares for its maiden international outing.

Previously, shinobi was one of the original members of the Cloud9 Blue VALORANT division, together with notable figures of the scene, such as Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, Mitch “mitch” Semago and others. Runner-up finishes at the Pulse Invitational and the PAX Arena Invitational highlights his time with the Blue squad before parting ways with them in December of last year.

During his time with Cloud9 Blue, shinobi became known as the IGL that most traded fragging for strategies. While shinobi wasn’t an excellent aimer and routinely ranked among the lowest ACS in North America, he came up with some unique strats that kept Cloud9 Blue in NA’s top 5 for several months.

Prior to his tenure in VALORANT, shinobi had a long list of teams he had led and worked within the Counter-Strike scene, including Rogue, Complexity Gaming, eUnited, Bad News Bears, and more. In a spent of his seven-year career in Counter-Strike, the 27-year-old had taken part in more than 20 different teams in both coaching and player duties, reflecting tons of experience he may deliver to his team on his first coaching stint in VALORANT.

Prior to joining Cloud9, shinobi captained and worked with a long list of North America’s notable teams, including Rogue, Complexity Gaming, eUnited, and Bad News Bears. Throughout his seven-year career in Counter-Strike, the 27-year-old had joined over 20 different teams’ as both a coach and a player, reflecting the depth of expertise he will bring to VALORANT.

The American comes in to fill the vacant spot that had never been served since the team’s inception.

Solid preparation will be essential for Global Esports as a tall task awaits them in the VCT APAC Last Chance Qualifier. They will face nine other strong teams across Asia-Pacific for a berth at Champions.

With the addition of shinobi, Global Esports now have:

  • 🇮🇳 Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar
  • 🇮🇳 Bhavin “HellRangeR” Kotwani
  • 🇮🇳 Akshay “KappA” Sinkar
  • 🇮🇳 Jayanth “skillZ” Ramesh
  • 🇮🇳 Abhirup “Lightningfast” Choudhury
  • 🇺🇸 Josh “shinobi” Abastado (Coach)
