The UK-based psychologist joins Global Esports’ backroom staff for their upcoming competitions.
INDIA – Global Esports have secured the services of sports psychologist Edgar Chekera, known for his prior work with some major organizations such as FNATIC, EXCEL, Manchester City, Team Falcons, and Guild Esports, among others.
“I’m the Sports Psychologist for Global Esports and my role in the team is making sure that the guys become the best version of themselves and feel mentally ready for a competition that might be going on,” Edgar introduced himself in a video published by the Mumbai-based organization on Tuesday.
Hailing from the United Kingdom, Edgar Chekera is a licensed psychologist renowned for his extensive background in working with athletes across 17 diverse competitive sports, accumulating nearly a decade of experience. He is set to lead the mental training sessions with Global Esports players as they prepare for the 2024 VCT season, which includes the VCT Pacific League in Seoul, aiming for potential qualifications for VALORANT Masters Madrid and Shanghai.

Upon joining Global Esports, Edgar reunites with Russel “Russ” Mendes, whom he previously guided while serving as the Head of Performance at Guild Esports. Their time at Guild Esports led to the team’s qualification for VALORANT Masters Copenhagen in 2022, where they stood among the three representatives from EMEA and reached the quarter-finals.
GE are now part of the wave of teams embracing the inclusion of sports psychologists within the APAC region to improve their performance, following in the footsteps of Velocity Gaming, Mindfreak, and Paper Rex, who employed Michelle Pain as their Sports Psychologist, alongside MLT Esports and Bren Esports, among others.
