Welcome EDward Gaming to Champions Seoul.
SOUTH KOREA – EDward Gaming are the first team to qualify for VALORANT Champions Seoul, representing the CN region alongside three other yet-to-be-determined teams.
Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang and his team will head to Seoul for the season-ending spectacle, having accumulated sufficient Championship Points to ensure that no more than three teams can overtake them, regardless of whether EDG finish in the top three in Stage 2.
The win by Trace Esports over FunPlus Phoenix in Week 2 of VCT CN Stage 2 yesterday guaranteed EDG’s spot in Seoul, as FPX were their closest competitor. Even in the scenario where FPX won all their remaining Regular Season games and received a playoff bye and EDG lost all their remaining games, they would still fall short of EDG. Meanwhile in the same scenario, if FPX won their second-round playoff game, they would qualify as one of the top three finishers instead of using the Championship Points slot.
VALORANT Champions Seoul is set to kick off on August 1-25 in Seoul, South Korea, and will feature 16 teams competing in four GSL-style best-of-three groups before moving to the double-elimination playoff bracket.
Each region will send four representatives: the top three finishers from Stage 2 of the Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and CN International Leagues, along with one additional team from each region that has accumulated the next highest Circuit Points.
EDward Gaming will be making their seventh international event appearance, aiming to improve after going winless in front of their home crowd at VALORANT Masters Shanghai. Lin “WoodAy1” Weihong has been brought in recently for additional manpower in a substitute capacity, coming from the CrossFire FPS scene with no prior experience in official VALORANT matches. It remains unknown whether WoodAy1 will be promoted to the active roster for Seoul.
EDward Gaming still have four opponents lined up in VCT CN Stage 2, where they will look to win the rest of the matchups to qualify for the playoffs and secure better seeding at VALORANT Champions Seoul.
