In a surprise turn of events, Paper Rex have announced the return of their main duelist Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie and a contract extension with the Singaporean player until 2026.
SINGAPORE — Paper Rex have officially announced that Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie will be returning to competitive play for VCT Pacific Stage 1. After following the due process for compulsory enlistment in Singapore, there have been new developments which allow Jinggg to return to compete in VCT Pacific with Paper Rex.
Harley “dsn” Örwall, Chief Gaming Officer (CGO) of Paper Rex stated in a press release:
“We were always prepared for the time that Jing Jie would have to register for his military service. Plans to keep our VALORANT roster’s competitive edge began as early as the start of 2023. However, we consider ourselves extremely fortunate that recent developments allow Jing Jie to continue competing on our team. Naturally, we’re ecstatic and are working to ensure Jing Jie’s documents and paperwork are in order to get him back in the game as soon as possible.”

Upon the conclusion of the 2023 VCT season, Jinggg returned to Singapore to register for National Service. He has been following the due process, which included medical examinations. It has been assessed that Jing Jie has a life-long medical condition that is managed with ongoing treatment. Upon medical evaluation and review, he is medically unfit for military service, according to a statement by Paper Rex.
The statement by Paper Rex further explains that his medical condition does not affect his ability to compete at the highest levels of esports.
“Jinggg’s medical condition is a personal and private matter, therefore, Paper Rex and Jinggg’s family request that the public respect his privacy in this regard.”
After the conclusion of the VCT 2023 season which saw Paper Rex take runners-up at VCT Champions LA, Jinggg has remained signed to Paper Rex as a reserve player. Jinggg was last seen in action during the OFF//SEASON events which included a show match in Indonesia and the AfreecaTV VALORANT League Invitational.
With the recent developments, Paper Rex have also signed a contract extension until 2026.
“Experimentation and flexibility has been a pivotal part of the Paper Rex competitive DNA. Every Paper Rex player has their strengths, and having Jinggg active and up to speed unlocks new options for the way Paper Rex wants to play,” the statement reads.
In a difficult decision revealed by the Singaporean organization, Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha has been moved to the reserve player role but remains part of the Paper Rex VALORANT team, ready to assume an active role should the need arise. “Monyet has been assimilating well into the Paper Rex team and played an important role in achieving Paper Rex’s Top 3 result in the recently concluded 2024 VCT Masters Madrid.”
