Riot Games has announced they will move the upcoming 2024 VCT Ascension Pacific event in Tokyo, Japan, to Jakarta, Indonesia.
INDONESIA – The upcoming VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 event will no longer be held in Tokyo, Japan, and will move to Jakarta, Indonesia, instead.
In an official statement announced today, Riot Games explained that the decision to move Ascension Pacific to Jakarta, Indonesia was made “due to a number of significant event production delays and tournament quality concerns that have arisen during our planning in Tokyo.”
“Unfortunately, we were not able to land on a satisfactory solution in Tokyo to deliver an event of the quality we want. Going forward with the current plan would have forced us to make compromises to the overall quality and accessibility for our fans across APAC. We were facing limited broadcast options, restricted format changes and potentially difficult competitive conditions for our teams. With all these factors in mind, we chose to pivot our location and produce the event elsewhere.
We are confident that this change will allow us to host the best possible Ascension Pacific for everyone, including high quality broadcast, an improved format, and the opportunity to watch matches live at an affordable price.”
With a new venue settled, the event will be moved back a week to September 20–29 and will run in a new format. The tournament will now be structured as a 10-team double elimination bracket played across 8 tournament days. This is a simpler format that will allow for lower bracket opportunities until the grand finals. Matches will be played in a best-of-3 format before switching to a best-of-5 for lower and grand finals.

Playing host to a VCT-level tournament for the first time, Indonesia has previously hosted two offline events for Challengers Indonesia Finals in 2023 and 2024 at Taman Anggrek Mall.
Each of the ten regions is sending their best representatives from their Split 2 competition, with the exception of TW/HK which determined their representatives based on circuit points, and Thailand which held an Ascension Qualifier Series featuring the Split 2 winner and top teams from circuit points.

Promoted teams will have the opportunity to prove themselves in the International Leagues during the VCT season, receive similar league benefits, and have an equal chance to qualify for Masters and Champions.
Riot Games added that they “will be sharing more information soon regarding our qualified teams and brackets.”
