VALORANT Masters Shanghai is set to adopt a new and interesting format for its latter stages.
CHINA – The initial stage of VALORANT Masters Shanghai will be played out using the Swiss format, it has been announced. The top four teams from each region that emerged victorious in their Stage 1 competition will receive direct seeding into the playoffs, whereas the remaining eight teams will start their journey through the Swiss stage.
“We’re excited to share that we’re going to bring back Swiss. Between the excitement of the unpredictable matchups and the incredibly high stakes for every single game, we love what Swiss has brought to our events,” Bill Pan, VALORANT Esports Strategy Lead, said in the announcement video.

VALORANT Masters Shanghai will also be introducing a new format to the playoffs, where the four aforementioned teams will get randomly drawn into the pick order and have the power to choose their opponents. A more detailed explanation of the format will go live closer to the event, according to Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports.
“We’re also going to be introducing a new twist to our playoff format, an opportunity for our top seeds to pick their opponents. The top four seeds who won the ILs will take direct control of their tournament destiny by getting to choose their playoff opponent. This moment will take place right after Swiss stage and before the start of playoffs.”
VALORANT Masters Shanghai will play out from May 23 to June 9 featuring twelve teams from four major regions, culminating in its final three days at the largest venue in VCT history – the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Representing VCT Pacific will be T1, Paper Rex, and Gen.G, while the remaining nine teams from the other three major regions will be determined by the end of Friday.
