The 18-year-old former Paper Rex player completes RRQ’s roster for Stage 2.
INDONESIA – RRQ (Rex Regum Qeon) have officially unveiled Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha as their new player heading into VCT Pacific Stage 2. The 18-year-old will fill the last vacant spot on the active roster following the departure of Saibani “fl1pzjder” Rahmad, who stepped down early this month.
Having made his name with Global Esports and more recently played with Paper Rex, Monyet has been turning heads with his versatility and promising performances in both Controller and Duelist roles. He joins RRQ on a transfer after seven months with Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee and co., during which he qualified for his first international event at VALORANT Masters Madrid.
Despite his brief tenure with Paper Rex, Monyet quickly integrated with the team and consistently delivered strong performances against top-tier opponents, keeping Paper Rex competitive in the latter stages of both the VCT Pacific KICKOFF event and Masters Madrid.
Harley “dsn” Örvall, Chief Gaming Officer of Paper Rex, commented on Monyet’s departure:
“Cahya is an incredibly talented player and a fierce competitor. As a reserve player, he has always been staying sharp and ready to fill in if any emergencies arose. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have a player like him on our reserve roster. However, Cahya has also expressed his deep desire to actively compete again, and Paper Rex wants to allow him to explore opportunities.”
Returning to an Indonesian-majority team for the first time since his tenure with ONIC Esports, Monyet also reunites with former teammates Hagai “Lmemore” Tewuh and head coach Marthinus “Ewok” Walt, with whom he finished second in the 2022 VCT APAC Last Chance Qualifier.
Jonathan Hoo, Head of VALORANT at Team RRQ, commented on Monyet’s arrival:
“I admire his mentality. I love his fighting spirit. No matter the circumstances, he can rise and fight again. Moreover, he is one of the best players from Indonesia with experience in various international events. So, recruiting Cahya was an easy decision.”
With Monyet’s arrival, RRQ will be hoping to improve upon their previous standings and reach new heights, seeking to ascend from their bottom-half finishes at KICKOFF and Split 1.
In four weeks, Monyet is set to debut with RRQ against DetonatioN FocusMe in the VCT Pacific Stage 2 Regular Season, where four spots at VALORANT Champions Seoul are up for grabs by the end of the event. Furthermore, Monyet will confront his former team, Paper Rex, in the final week of the Regular Season, less than two months from now, on July 5.
