VCL Philippines Split 1 invites announced

Four of the country’s upper-echelon teams have been invited to the upcoming VCL Philippines Split 1

PHILIPPINES – With the regular season of VCL Philippines Split 1 just a week away, Mineski and Riot Games have gone ahead and announced the four invitees for the event, set to take place between January 27 to March 12.

The list of four teams heading straight to the regular season is a star-studded one, with the remaining four spots in the tournament to be filled by a qualifier taking place this weekend.

The invited sides include Action PH, who became the fourth and final team to be invited to the PH₱1,500,000 event. It also marks the return of the Action PH banner after seven months of inactivity, now with an all-Filipino lineup headlined by former South Built Esports duo Patrick “Derek” Lacson and Elmer “micr0” Coloma, former NAOS Esports pair Shaun “blurred” Maglasang and Franz “kevzii” Dingal, as well as former Sanguine Rebels Dragons player “Yanagi”.

NAOS Esports and Oasis Gaming have also joined the fray. It comes as no surprise, as the two teams have long been the dominant names in the Philippines outside of Team Secret and Rex Regum Qeon. However, both sides now field an entirely different roster than that from 2022 as a result of PH’s recent massive roster shuffle, now featuring former players of the now-defunct South Built Esports and Bren Esports teams, as well as Rex Regum Qeon.

SR Nacague have accepted their first invite to a VCT tournament to round out the invite list. Their last notable outing came in the AfreecaTV SEA VALORANT Invitational, where the team surprisingly finished in fourth place after victories over Alter Ego, FULL SENSE, and SR Dragons before losing to Bigetron Arctic and BOOM Esports in the finals.

VCL Philippines Split 1 starts with a group stage featuring a single round-robin format group. All matches are best-of-three, and all teams play each other once to determine the top six teams who would secure a spot in the double-elimination, best-of-three playoff bracket.

With the invites, the team list for VCL Philippines Split 1 will look as such:
